Do I have to use the MB bypass kit for my melted fuse or can I just get an in line 25 gauge fuse and bypass the fuse myself?



The kit number is 924 540 00 99 1086 and contains the

I already did that. The problem I'm having is common to the 124s. The contact in the fuse box at the bottom of the fuse actually melts and sinks down into the box. I was just wondering if I have to spend the money for the kit or if I can just by-pass that fuse myself with an inline fuse. I would solder a new fuse holder outside the fuse box, much like the Mercedes fix except it wouldn't be in a box.

fuse 12 to fuse 11, which was empty. A simple but, relatively long job. It worked well for a number of years but, yesterday my fuse 11 now did the same thing. I may try to fix this time again but, I may go for the "in-line fuse" route...I will take a look this weekend...

For those of you interested, I went to Autozone and purchased a Heavy Duty fuse Holder part # FHA30BP and a couple of spade leads part #85214.
I went under the fuse box and connected one lead to the pink/green wire and the other lead to the black/green wire. This eliminated the need for fuse 12 (11 in my case). The blower is working now for less than $4. By the way, I called the stealership to check on the upgrade kit. They did not have it in stock and it was going to take almost a week to get it...so, that made up my mind.
Note: The fuse holder leads are short. If you want to leave the new fuse holder outside, just splice the wires and connect them to longer wires. I did not wanted to mess with that plus, if it blows again...it is probably time for a new blower motor or controller anyways. I will keep an eye on it...
