catalystic converter
Someone please help! I know nothing about cars. I've been told i have a crack in my catalystic converter. Can this be fixed or do you have to have a new one. My dealer said a $1600.00 job, but could fix crack for $500.00. This is not warrented, so i guess i can get prices from anyone, right? Please help, i don't have alot of money to work with. I really don't want to be taken advantage of. Thanks

You might want to let us know what year and model car you have.
And, if you scoured the site just a little, you may have checked with the parts store on this site (fastlane) and discovered the price of your catalytic converter, if you were to buy it here. For example: a converter for an 88 420 will cost you less than $600, where as a converter for a 94 E420 will run you well over $700. If you are really low on funds, I would suggest a junk yard. Good luck with your catalytic converter.
