I ask this question because I have a 1992 300E. I bought it about two months ago and it seems like a great car. When on the interstate at about 70 mph it is pushing 3000 rpm's. My wifes 2005 pontiac Grand prix is pushing just over 2000 rpm's. I know my car is getting into the fourth gear and it is a v-6. My question is range that I am talking about normal. Also, it was a flat area and just cruising.

they can run a bit higher than other similar vehicles due to the different gear ratios...someone else can elaborate on this a bit more...
my 300e is a 93 and has the 3.2 engine and my RPMs are around the 2600 or so range at 70 if i remember correctly...i'll have to double check that one though...

Yes, that is normal. 3,000 RPM is in the torque band and moving into HP range thus well situated for high-speed driving, such as the Autbahn.

They'll also rev higher until the car is warmed up...thats if you start, and kick it into drive and zip off everymorning...kinda like me..

Fiz123, FYI ... 1998 was the first year a V6 was sold in the E-Class cars, at least in the United States.

When I first got my Benz I noticed it revs higher at hwy speed than the typical US vehicle. My V8 Durango loafs along at 1800 RPM @ 65 MPH but the Miata turns 3500 @ 65 in 5th gear... Different engine speeds for different applications, but normal nonetheless.
