Convertible top not working , please help
I started a forum a while ago about my 91 500sl convertible top not going down , I was told to have the codes read , I finally did , and we reset it and it worked ( Shortly) , and it once again doesn't work , the codes read , something about speedometer and a obstruction , there was no obstruction and the speedometer works , but I noticed that my miles are not changing , could it be that , any ideas on what I should change and what I can do to fix the problem ??, is there some kind of fuse thing I can change for the speedometer ?? any help will e great , thank you very much ,

The instrument clusters on the 129, 140's are pretty common to go bad, and yes, they are a little pricy. If you have top issues, go see someone who has experiance not just with benz, but with benz tops. They can be very very complicated.

Speedometer is working ....odometer is not
it says nothing about the odometer or cluster , it said something about speedometer , and i did take it to someone who knows about these problems , but I would like to try and fix it myself first , before I pay the money , who knows it could be a small fix , anyone else have any ideas ?? thank you

Have you recently replaced the battery or had any service performed lately?
The top operation has to be resynchronized whenever the battery connection is interrupted. Takes a couple of tries to get the car to figure this out, and then it will work properly. My (former) '95 SL softtop freaked out once on its own (no battery disconnect), and I went ahead and undid the battery connection so that I could reset the top operation.

Disconnect battery...wait about 5 or ten minutes...reconnect.
Hope you know your radio security code btw, or don't do this. Start the soft top fold-down operation...it took my car a couple of tries to do this right...it would start the procedure...windows roll down, front lock disengage, etc. then just quit with the red light flashing...so I would reverse the procedure and let it close everything up. The third try did it for me. Everything worked as it should. Note: May not make a difference, but do this while inside the car with BOTH doors closed....there's that issue with the window needing to go up (or down) slightly for the window seal...

I tired disconnecting and re-connecting the Battery and It didn't work , so its has to be because of the wheel speed senser , does anyone know how much the wheel speed senser goes for ?? just an idea?
is this something I can do myself ?? is it and easy fix ?? Thanks again |
