Bob. I was thinking Little Red Rooster and The Music Never Stopped!
Michael..thanks..I like the car and know its probably worth the 2k (book KBB PP is around 4k and 4 others with virtually same miles for sale within 200miles from me with asking prices just under 5g). I don't want to be the idiot left holding the bag when something breaks. Excuse my ingorance but how many km is 400k? I was thinking if there was a problem it would've happened before now.

Yeah the ol early 4Matics DO have their followers, that's for sure. Hey, look at me I own an old British sports car, probably a fair comparison. Only had to be push started 3 times this summer, leaks oil like a sieve, leaky, drafty, rides rough, just about anything you can imagine going wrong is apt to go wrong, but I love it! BUT it's fun. 4matic: that thing look like fun to you?

![]() One of the owners of the local M.B. dealer brought a brand new 300E 4matic to the country. After two total failures of the 4matic systems he returned the car to Germany.

I would tend to agree that there will be alot more people telling you to run than there are people who love them. It was over-engineered and overly complex mechanically. They tend to go through transfer cases pretty quick. I don't even like LOOKING at the front springs. Something not quite right there. Don't like the way they drive, very heavy steering, not pleasant to drive, and that's just short roadtests, can't imagine driving one a few hundred miles. The current version (98 or so and newer cars), no problem. MB didn't even know if they wanted to use the 4Matic name when they came out with the new system. There was a bulletin that alot of the first of the new system cars didn't have the 4matic badge on the back and told us we could order and install the badge for the owners if they wanted it.
