does anybody know if a w202 1997 C180 has can-bus ???

Hoping to install Xenon on my car, but want it leagel... and then it gone cost waaay to much without canbus

Not sure how this would affect installing Xenon lights. No I don't believe there is any CAN on a 97 202, everything should be hard wired, but I would think this would be an advantage, if any difference at all.

Actually it is Can-i-bus. Has to come from Canada for that model. I believe that will work. I would try if I had some. Will definitely make the lights very bright.

and according to the "guys" with bit more experience than me, i need sensors on both front and bax axel and can-i-bus...

not sure where to get it, what it does or anything...
so i'm out fishing :-D

CAN is Controlled Area Network (i-bus is information bus, different terms for same thing, BMW uses the term "I Bus"). It's the system whereby different control modules share information on a single wire, instead of a bunch of different wires going between modules. Saves alot of weight. Don't think it has anything to do with your lights. Yes to do the system correctly there are level sensors to keep the lights aimed down the road. I think on a 202 it might have all been hardwired.

on all mercedes, xenon level sensors are hard wired. One on the rear sway and one on the front.

I don't think it's accurate to say "all Mercedes". The sensors may be on a CAN on a newer MB. On a 202 I think they are hard wired. I also think it's 2 sensors up front and one rear.

I actually changed it to MOST mercedes but for some reason it did not take the edit. 202,203, 208,209,210,211,220,219,215,463,163,164,r129,r230 are all hard wired.

Which leaves what cars where the level sensors are on a CAN???

You can't just "add" a CAN, either the car has it or it doesn't.

how come they call it canbus and not multiplex?

They don't call it canbus, they call it CAN, Controller Area Networking. Multiplexing is a generic term for single wire communications betwen multiple control units (it's actually 2 wire for redundancy and other reasons). Other manufacturers can call it different things. I think it falls back on what "language" the systems use. BMW is kind of quick to use the "multiplexing" name, MB very rarely referrs to multiplexing as a generic term, pretty much stick to "CAN" in their references. BMW also uses the name "I-Bus" (information bus)
