I have a 99 E320 that is experiencing a "jerking" problem. After slowing down, but not completely stopping as through a yield sign (we all come to a complete stop at stop signs ) and then accelerating, the car hesitates a bit then slams into gear. Does anyone have any suggestions? I changed the transmission fluid and filter but it didn't help. Could it be something other than the transmission?

As a test, change your "W-S" switch on the shifter from what it is now to the opposite (if it's on "S" now, as I suspect it is, try "W". Or vice-versa). In W it will only go as low as 2nd gear, in S it goes to first. Just see if it changes anything and report back.

the 00 E320 did this upon downshifting. when transitioning from dbl to single
digit speeds it would suddenly jerk and (I cant remember exactly) shift into
1st as if synchro wasn't working or some such. after several trips to the
dealer, the Starmark took over and the transmission was replaced.

i've not had this with the 99 E320 but here is a thought: why not wipe out
the adaptive settings? here is a technique which seems to have some folks
enthused about the results, precluding the need to take the car to dealer to
have this performed:

1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.

2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.

3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.

4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.

Sooo Alan, Gilly, Raymond..whats The Verdict? Did Any Of You Guys Try The "ecu Reset"? Hmmm, What Are The Benefits From Doing Such A Reset? Any Downside To Doing It? This Is Interesting...

I have the same problem on my 97 E300d. I try every time I slow down to wait until I feel the final downshift. The W mode does make a difference.. I am also noticing some "slack" in the drive train.

Also, make sure your flexdiscs are good.

Do you have 190k miles on the original tranny?

Yes. PO stated tranny was never replaced. Only had fluid changed at 150K

anecdotal but here is one example. we'll never know if the conditions are similar
to this thread.... but many have reported great success as the adaptive trans-
mission algorithm resets and the shift points are at lower RPMs which is great for
young people and wannabe racers. i dont care, since i'm a smooth driver and
dont beat my ride.
