light bulb warning

I have an e320 1999 light bulb warning light, I checked all the bulbs and they seem to work fine. could it be the wrong voltage for bulbs. it was at a dealership so I was pretty sure they had the right bulbs installed. when i turn the first click to fog that is when the warning light goes on. also is there a module to replace or if this isn't fixable, is there a plug behind the guages that i can pull that operates all the warnings so i can see my normal dash again? thanks

Let me get this straight, you turn the headlights on, and you are OK, then you pull the knob out 1 click, to activate the fogs, and then you get the warning? What does the display say is inop?

There's has got to be a bulb out somewhere.... check the licence plate lights and sidemarker lights. check them at dusk, when you can see them better...Some of the smaller bulbs don't really stand out, until it's dark out.

good hunting!

I checked all the lights are on, including license plate, I noticed the warning lamp does not come on until I start the car. if i turn the lights on before i start the car no warning is posted. I am not sure if that makes any difference.

You step on the brake pedal when you start the car and put it in gear. The brake lights are a very common issue with these cars. You need a second person to help check them.

Probably just the bulbs. The instructions for changing them are in the owner's manual.

Yes, the ambers on the sides of the front bumper, these are lighted. Often overlooked by previous MB owners because most MB's didn't have them there, they were up next to the headlights (side of the fenders) not the bumper. There are "D" shaped holes in front of the wheels at the same level as the bumper lights, you schtick your finger in there and push on a tab that releases the light assembly from the bumper, then a simple twist to get the socket out of the lamp. They use these common push-in bulbs, not as picky as other locations in the car, can pick up most anyplace, I think it's bulb #94 or 194??

The other ones that are overlooked on the 210 is the small oval inner bulbs, they have a small halogen that lights up as a parking light. It's in the same lens as the high beams, but the bulbs are below the high beam bulbs. 210s are famous for going through these bulbs pretty quickly.

If you're sure that all the lamps are on, check the taillights. Remove the bulb sockets and look carefully at the contacts in the taillights for signs of corrosion. This was mentioned earlier.

I addition looking for corrosion, the tail lamp assemblies are notorious for melting due to excess heat. Very common on W210 cars.

Most Mercedes shops have replaced dozens of them.

I had similar experience with the tail light sockets on my C230. In my case the solder "bumps" on the bottom of the bulb had worn and the socket contact's "fingers" didn't have enough spring force to make good contact. I got the bulb out indicator. In my case the bulb did not light up so it was easy to find although a little confucing at first when I found the bulb was good.

I would definitely agree with above posts to take out the tail light bulbs and clean/inspect them. Many times I have read similar posts about fuses "I took them out and cleaned them and put back in and now everything works."

Might not work but well worth a try.

Mike
