My 1986 190D has developed a leak around one of the delivery valve bodies on top of the injector pump. My CD shows there is both an O ring and a copper seal ring under this delivery valve body. Fast Lane lists a seal, but not both the copper and O ring. Which do I need to replace and is this what is listed in the Fast Lane listing. Are there any problems to replacing these except for having the splined wrench and cleanliness. Also, are the splined rings with 30 torx bolts just to keep the delivery valve bodies from loosening under vibration?
Thanks, Brad |

delivery valve O ring seals
Thanks Steve,
When I tried the 017 997 41 48 part number for the O ring seals Fast Lane said they were not available, but the 004 997 45 40 copper rings were available. Could you give me anymore information on availability. also i could use the splined socket part number, since I found out my friend Larry Bible does not have one of these. Thanks, Brad |

Go to your MB dealer, they should be only $0.50 a piece. I could send you some but the shipping would be more than the parts.
The socket is 001 589 65 09 00. It too should be available from your MB dealer. They can order it if you give them this number.

You may try Performance Product (www.************************). The socket was priced at $18.60 in their Summer 2000 Catalog. The catalog shows the o-ring too but I am confused by their catalogs. The o-rings used on 1984/190D, 1986/190D, 1987/300D carry different stock numbers. I thought they should be the same o-ring.

Correction to part number above
The correct MBZ part number for the Spline Socket needed to remove the pressure valve holders from the top of the injector pump is 617 589 01 09 00 Picked one up today for a project this weekend. I am replacing the oil rings and copper seals on the IP of my 300D, hopefully this will stop the fuel leak.

The lock rings are indeed to prevent the pressure valve holder from unscrewing. Torque to 25 nM twice, then to 30 nM without loosening or they will leak.
Leaking seals will cause severe injector knock at idle with very rough running that gets much better at higher speed, no smoke. Loosening the injector nuts one at a time will isolate the leaking one, retorque. Use antisieze on the lock ring screws, they get stuck if you don't. Peter
