Hood Release Problems

'92 300SE
Of late, the hood is getting harder and harder to open. Pull on the release and sometimes the driver's side only will release. Fight to re-latch that side and then you can get both latches to release.

It feels like the cable has stretched - you have to pull the lever almost to full travel before the hood releases, if it releases at all.

This worked just fine until recently.

Is there an adjustment anywhere in the mechanism?

It's just a matter of time until it fails to release at all and then I'm in real trouble.

AllData has nil on this subject, other than times/cost to R&R the cable.

Thanks!

Dry lubricant

Clean the mechanism as best you can with brake cleaner and then use a dry a(PTFE) lubricant. I woulndt use oil or grease as it attracts dirt and will get in the mechanism.
