W124 Fuel pump, Filter, Accumulator

I'm getting ready to work in the fuel pump area of my 1991 300CE to change the fuel filter and accumulator. I'm a little nervous having never done it before. Any tips for working around here? I'm worried about pinching old brittle fuel lines to stop the flow of gas. What's the best tool to use here? In tightening everything back up with new crush washers, just tighten until there are no leaks? I have a set of regular wrenches and a set of flare wrenches. Do I remove the sleeve off the old filter and put it on the new filter?

Thanks for your help.

i wasnt able to pinch any lines on my 420sel as they were so hard and old. i tighened the washers down snug at first and spot checked for leaks and tightened as needed. One more turn of the wrench after that proved enough. If you did not purchase new rubber fuel line and yours is old and hard, do not do the work on a sunday afternoon like i did when no parts are available. especially if you rely on your car to get to work in the morning.

I've done it a few times on a '90 300E and my current '92 300E. I think you will find the fuel line from the tank will be fine. I just use a needle nose vice grip and a red shop rag. I think it's prudent to have a fire extinguisher close by. Just be prepared to have some fuel dripping down your arms.

As to the sleeve question, you just loosen the phillips head screws and slide the filter out and new one back in.

Pretty easy job.

PS: You are going to crank a while before the pressure builds up enough to start.

You have new OEM crush washers, there the only way to go as they don't corrospond to common sizes...

refitting the sleave can be a little effort, but it prevents the corosion of the clamp...

Your lines should be good if you counter hold them and take it slow...

A rag and a bucket should be good, maybe some various sized rubber stoppers if you have any around, and wear eye protection! when you crack those lines

If you just turn the key on and let the pump do its thing, the system should fill with out a long cranking period.:fork_off:
