Oil leak 89 300TE

I just spent 2 hours going over all the old posts about head gasket oil leaks and still have a few questions. I have narrowed the leak down to the right rear of the block, I use a quart of oil every 700 miles, the coolant is clean, I can live with the leak, do I need to get it fixed?, I love the car and plan on keeping it for another year or so. I have a 124000 miles on it. Am I doing damage by driving it and not fixing the leak?

I am having exactly the same problem, adding a quart every 700 miles. Many people suggested to take the car to an MB shop for a diagnosis instead of guesssing around. I am still waiting for other hints, getting diagnosis from MB shop is something you can surely do anytime without any TechHelp forum .

It won't get better!

It will smell like a Porsche!

It will dissolve the trans mount and driveshaft coupling.

Other than that, the EPA will probably never know.

Wow I had completely forgotten about that smell... sitting in traffic on a hot day, the acrid odor of Delvac 1.

I drove mine until the oil showing up in the coolant. A new Elring head gasket set and an economy size jug of Shout in the cooling system and it's all good now. The worst damage was the oil all over the driveway. I don't think mine ever leaked quite as much as you speak of... maybe a quart every 1500 miles.

My '92 300E has had a slow leak of oil and coolant from a head gasket leak for now 130,000 miles. I don't have any oil smell. There is no intrusion of oil into the coolant.

My only point is that at least in my case this ignoring of the head gasket leak has worked fine.

Steve
