First have the bat. checked at your local parts house, see if it has a weak cel,if not you may have bad alt.or voltage reg. try this first and let us know what you are told, then we can proceed with more help.JNT

I think that your problem is an electrical issue. But I don't know how to solve it. A question may be helpful. Did you try to change the battery again? (Even if it is new).

Please do not disconnect the battery while the engine is running.

Is there a reason for you doing this?
Also it will be helpful if you explain in detail what happens when the problem occurs.

1. Make sure the battery connections are clean and tight.
2. Charge the battery, slow, low amp charge is best. Battery should have over 12 volts at this point.
3. start the engine, check voltage at battery, should be about 13 to 14.5 volts.
4. If voltage with engine running does not increase, the problem is either a worn out voltage regulator (on the back of the alternator) or worn out alternator. This is assuming that all the electrical connections are good.
5. If the voltage increased properly with the engine running, you should have the battery properly load tested and the cells checked as mentioned in above post.

PS. I think you may also need to check for excesive current draw.

Good luck,
Acky

That's what happened in mine but it was first the ABS light and then the SRS light and it died. Then when I turned the key it was just those two lights and nothing else. I unscrewed the voltage regulator from the back of the alternator and it was shot. Replaced for about 30 dollars and bought a new battery and no problems since.

Check the voltage regulator, I'm betting your brushes are worn. You can replace just the brushes, but it's better to replace the whole regulator as it's pretty inexpensive.

Ovp

Hello -

You just described what I had fixed at the garage this week:

ABS- SRS lights and the engine would cut out or not restart.

The mech replaced the OVP.

Over Voltage Protection Relay

It helps to maintain components from getting too much juice. Apparently, mine had a crack in the solder. When it was tapped, the problems would come or go away.

Since it was R & R'd, there are no longer problems with cold start, ABS, SRS lights,... It is most probably on the ABS or fuel pump circuit- havent researched that yet.
