One leads to another, then BAM, another AMG
While researching the paper trail of my 280E AMG, I found and talked to Richard Buxbaum, ex-Founder/ex-President of AMG of North America. We talked about my w123 AMG and about a few other general questions regarding AMGs, and at the end of the conversation he tosses in “Do you know anyone who’s interested in a 500SL AMG with a 5-speed? Immaculate with only 45,000 miles and one owner. A friend of mine.” Short answer – “YES!”
So here’s my new car. Full original AMG documentation and receipts to prove its pedigree – all installed in Affalterbach in 1983 (some receipts are in Deutschmarks and in German), then imported to America. Engine kit (polished/ported intake, polished/ported heads, hotter cams, larger exhaust manifold), 5-speed transmission, exhaust kit, suspension kit, body kit, wheels/tires, and special-ordered SEC seats. In a neat little twist, the car’s original sale date was April 13, 1983 – so I officially purchased it today, April 13, 2007. The car has never been wrecked, painted, altered, or driven in the rain/snow. The AMG steering wheel shows up in the paperwork, but is not on the car, and the original Penta wheels were replaced in the late 80s with the MonoBlock 17's. Anxious to get the thing home, hammer on the local tollroads, and browse through the paper trail. I never thought I'd end up with two of these. These photos are the ones the Seller sent to me: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
