1995 E320-Check Engine-What Do 26 Flashes of the LED Mean?
After holding the button down for 3-4 seconds with the key in position 2 (dash lights on, engine off), I counted 26 flashes of the LED. I repeated the procedure and counted 26 flashes again. What does this code mean in respect to the emission control system? Thanks in advance!
By the way, what is the proper procedure for resetting the light?

Thanks
I accidently pulled the key out after reading the last code. Then, I put the key back in position 2 and held the button for 10-12 seconds. I removed the key and started the car. The check engine light was still illuminated. Now, I can no longer retrieve the 26 flashes. What does this mean? Also, does anyone have the list/PDF of all codes corresponding to flashes? Thanks.

Code 26 is the Infamous Shift Delay fault code.
Most likely problem is a leaking cable control element at the tranny for delayed shift when engine is at warm up condition. This is an emmissions code and the concept is to hold the trans in second gear delay to help speed the cat up to temp. Search archives for "Shift Delay'... I have a tutorial on the whole system in there somewhere. Here are codes for you car and instruction for a retrieve tool for all the other Management Modules http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=107630 |

Must be a mix-up on their info..Rear 02 in 104 engine did not appear until OBD2, Motronic. And not in 124 chassis.
He has HFM/SFI ,OBD1 |

Doesn't Seem to be a Huge Issue
After reading some additional threads regarding the shift delay code, it sounds like I can safely ignore this issue for the time being. Supposedly, the transmission may shift slightly differently because of a vacuum leak, but I don't believe it's something I need to urgently fix. Please let me know if my thinking is off...thanks!

Many guys just put a BB in the line from the SOV [ behind brake booster, green line ] and that stops any shift delay or vac leak. Only problem is once in a while you have to go clear the code.
I usually just shift into a lower range manually when the car is cold [ which is the only time sift-delay is called for].. that does the same thing [ heat the cat] as the delay does... they just want to gt the coolant and cat warm fast so you get into 02 sensor/closed loop as fast as possible [which is a good thing all around ]..my simple manual gear reduction at start does that just as well and is good for the car.. Actually the biggest problem with startekinfo is the info is organized by system not car type. The HFM system was used in the first E320 210 chassis cars and does have a post cat sensor in those systems.
