1995 E320-Check Engine-What Do 26 Flashes of the LED Mean?

After holding the button down for 3-4 seconds with the key in position 2 (dash lights on, engine off), I counted 26 flashes of the LED. I repeated the procedure and counted 26 flashes again. What does this code mean in respect to the emission control system? Thanks in advance!

By the way, what is the proper procedure for resetting the light?

Thanks

I accidently pulled the key out after reading the last code. Then, I put the key back in position 2 and held the button for 10-12 seconds. I removed the key and started the car. The check engine light was still illuminated. Now, I can no longer retrieve the 26 flashes. What does this mean? Also, does anyone have the list/PDF of all codes corresponding to flashes? Thanks.

Code 26 is the Infamous Shift Delay fault code.

Most likely problem is a leaking cable control element at the tranny for delayed shift when engine is at warm up condition. This is an emmissions code and the concept is to hold the trans in second gear delay to help speed the cat up to temp.
Search archives for "Shift Delay'... I have a tutorial on the whole system in there somewhere.

Here are codes for you car and instruction for a retrieve tool for all the other Management Modules
