Actual realistic gas mileage?? '00-'03 E320 Wagon

Hi,
I'm doing my best to research a 2000-03 E320 wagon before I buy but oddly the one unclear spec on the car is gas mileage. What is everyone getting for city and more importantly highway mileage? I've read many conflicting qoutes...18/20 and 26/30...but I'd like to get a good idea before I buy. If you could also add average highway speed and if the car is 2WD or a 4matic. Thanks!!!

2003 E320 4Matic wagon. Average city and highway combined is about 20 MPG.

City is about 15 - 18 once the engine warms up. Highway at 70-75 MPH is about 23 - 25 MPG.

The first start in the morning on a short trip yields the worst fuel mileage. A 5-mi trip in the morning will get something like 10 - 12 MPG.

I've had a 2001 2WD E320 wagon for the last several years. It averages 20-21MPG in suburban stop-and-go driving. Hwy is 27MPG, plus or minus 1. I should note that I drive it for maximum economy - modest acceleration, no leadfoot maneuvers, etc. The Munroney sticker says 21/27 for this car, and that's pretty much what I get.

My 02 E320 4-matic sedan will get 27 highway if driven perfectly and conditions are ideal. 25-26 is the norm. City mpg is all over the place depending on just about everything.

Our 2000 4Matic is presently getting about 25 mpg from a 70/30 highway/city mix. The highway is all rush-hour and can involve a fair bit of stop and go. In the coldest weather that drops to about 22 mpg, same mix.
