How do I get into this wiper box?

Did you buy a new arm or using the old one.

On 124 there is the swf and bosch ones, its a half circle and they are opposite of each other so they much match. if you bought the wrong arm it will either not fit or cause the problem your describing.

The arm should just stick in and screw down. Other than that I cant help you.
