ABS seems to activate no matter the conditions.190E

This is on a 91 190E 2.6 that I am rescuing after a slight front end mishap. Only the grille, ac condenser, and radiator had to be replaced. At the first start-up in about a year, everything hummed along perfectly while stationary. When stopping, no matter how lightly, the ABS seems to activate. The pedal breaks under foot and I can hear the ABS pump with its characteristic hum/grind. (very low noise but immediately identifiable)

Where should I start? I suspect the wheel speed sensor/sensors but would like to know if this is a known issue with a direct solution or not.

Thanks,

Sam
