My rims on my 1994 mb e420 get blackend by all the brake dust. Do any companys make dustless or even low dust brake pads? Thanks

The ceramic pads offered by tire rack dust almost not at all. Long wearing too but are a little pricey and you have to replace front and back all at once since they have different grabbiness than reguar pads and will cause brake bias issues if you mix them.

Tom, from every thing I've read there is typically some drawback to using other than MB brake pads ... you sacrifice some performance characteristic for less dusting. How well do the ceramic brake pads perform compared to MB brake pads? Will they function if the engine stops and there is no power assist? Do the ceramic brake pads wear MB rotors faster than MB brake pads? Years ago I tried Porterfield brake pads which supposedly produced less brake dust. The difference in brake dust was not as dramatic as advertised and the braking performance was significantly reduced at low speeds ... required more pedal effort. I quickly changed back to MB brake pads and use them exclusively now. Dare I say that I use Kleen Wheels on the front wheels of our cars to prevent the rapid build-up of brake dust ... have never had any problems with overheating as some folks claim, but my wife and I drive conservatively.

The ceramics (maybe they are fiberglass) grip more than the stock pads. I am pretty sure they would wear the discs a bit more, but in the two years I have been using them it has not been noticable. And the wheels stay very acceptably clean.

I have had the dust shields before and eventually threw them away. They get bent and rub and so forth.
