Check the voltage of your battery. When you turn the key does the engine turn at all or do you get nothing at all? Do you have the spark plug wires hooked up according to fire order?
Check the igntion coil. check for a spark at the spark plugs.

Maybe a faulty or missaligned NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH. Try to start the car with the shifter in "N".

OVP?
I dont want to send you on a wild goose chase. The ovp just makes sure none of the electrical parts get fried. But definately I would conside the neutral safety switch. Is your alternator bad? A bad alternator will drain your battery. If you send me your vin I can search through some documents and send you some pdf documents when I come home from school.

well,i only really had time to check connections and make a few atemps to start the car, did not get to check voltage but as i said the lights were bright. drove the f-150 into work today so i dont have the vin on me, but it is a 1988 420 sel . thanks for the help in advance, when i get home i will try throwing it in N to start but i think i may have done that already( i am pretty thurough in this kind of situation) I do have one more bit of info, the oil light comes on and stays on when it runs, the oil level is up,i checked it. does the sending unit affect if the car will start? like a good diesal?

Very good!. Some times the neutral safety switch is good but the bushings in the shifter mechanism get bad and the P position is not sensed correctly. You could try to replace those bushings first and if problem presist, you know you'll have to replace the neutral safety switch.
