Spark Plug...US tables incorrect for Euro

My euro engine has a label on it with spark plug rec.

Says
Bosch W7D

Seems the US engine takes bosch W8D

I ordered
NGK BP5ES

I found a cross ref table

says the bosch W7D translates into a different NGK BP6ES

It would seem the NKG equiv to the bosch is the 6ES

Will the 5ES not work as well?

I wonder if Rusty will exchange them for correct part

Really is quite hard to buy Euro parts even if you add a note that the engine is a Euro & if any parts are different to update..

I would assume its best to install the recommended plug...

Should I return them/ get correct...is there big diff in these plugs?
Does my engine run w a cooler plug?

Seems higher NGK number is cooler

The 5es are fine for high milage engines.
We usually go with W9 in the Bosch on high milage engines , so I would stay with the 5 in NGK..if you find them on the hot side after a few miles . just open them up a few thousands.
NGK plugs are far better than any other plug for vintage Benz. including Bosch, specially if you get ones made in India...

So its ok & preferred to go a lil hotter w a hi mileage engine...
Lucky mistake on my part for not checking into the conversion...

I don't know what plug is in there
I have never pulled a plug so I may have to have them installed

I might try to pull a plug now that the wires are due to be delievered today.
wouldn't touch the wires on the car before I had new as they are really old & the rubber might just break. They say Germany

I'm glad I got the NGK
prices similar to bosch & non resistor...

I hope I did ok by ordering the bosch ignition wires...
I hear Beru is better
just hope Bosch wires are stiill good quality.

is this plug 5/8 hex?

I tried my 5/8 spark plug socket on it & the socket is not deep enough too reach hex area?

My 83 euro 500 sec is running NKG BP5ES & runs fine also.

Oem spec plug on engine label is Bosch W7D or Beru 14 7D
Found cross ref equiv to BP6ES.

Bosch sites are confusing
Say BP6ES is equiv to WR7DC

Same bosch site matches WR8DC which should be a cooler plug
with the much hotter BP5ES.

This seems to suggest BP5 is cooler than BP6 which it is not.

Alo this site lists slightly hotter plugs for hi mileage engines or lots of idle & short trip stop * go driving.
That makes sense to help prevent fouling.

Thats why I went a slight hotter.
I have had no problems with the car but wondering if this could affect the smog??/

Also reinforces that you have to run correct FA ratio....

The hotter plug you are running will not adversely affect emissions and will probably help them. The recommended plug for your Euro 500 in Germany was 1 heat range cooler than in the US because in Germany most cars are operated at high speeds (think over 100 mph) for extended periods of time which would kill the US spec plug and/or engine. Did you ever get all of your vacuum/engine management hoses replaced? Mark

That did cross my mind as Germany runs the autobahn up to 140 mph.
hence would need a cooler plug.
Also my driving is alot of idle & short trips local so
a tad hotter would also apply for that as well as high mileage engine.

So I'm good there?!!

Been tightening up the vacs. Got some new bigger hoses on.
new pass valve cover to air intake hose
new big driver intake to ich hose
new big hose in front of airslide. have new big hose to front intake but need to remove parts to install.
New egr vac line & hoses.

The open purple lines near lights must be for lights.
I plugged them to make sure.

Still don't get econ guage pinned left at idle in park.

Possible leak sources the 4 port big valve cover to intake hoses & that big y hose leading to under FD.

I have 8 new fuel injectors can't find one but it might be good in the future to have them put in & have someone take off FD to change all those vac hoses under there.

Just having trouble finding a suitable bar eligible smog repair to get the fuel mix right.

I think what I have done has made it richer. I think it was always rich as when I push down on FD tower it slows a bit.
I have been reading that means it too rich?
I'd like to try to lean it out a tad as bad vac lines make it leaner nor richer so it would seem I have to lean it out?????

It might sqeak pass now but I want cats checked as I could be eligible to get a reimbursent thru the cap smog program.

Still don't know ehere a big black can gets hooked up which I am thinking is the evap charcoal can but not sure & its not connected so that can't be good.

Still trying to research so thanks for all the great advice.
