190e crank position sensor replacement

Can anyone tell where exactly where this sensor is, what tools are needed, and how they replaced this sensor? I already know I will have to drop my 16 valve's skid plate

I ass/u/me the front of the 190e engine is similar to my 110 engine. If so, and if you are referring not to the pin on the harmonic balance wheel, but to the electronic sensor, it can be spotted on the left side just above the harmonic balance wheel at the 2:00 position as you face the front of the car. Mine uses 1 10 mm nut to hold it in place.

That should be it. It has a wire harness that leads directly to the EZL unit and you can easily do all the work from the top side, not needing to get under the car at all. Wire routes up under several things from between the engine fan/harmonic balancer area over to the dirver's side fender apron. Easy job.

So the crank position sensor is in the front of the engine? I thought everyone here said it is above the starter near the trans??

There are two crank position sensors. One in the front called the TDC Top Dead Center sensor and there is one inthe back, I think it can be refered to as the Crank position sensor...How do you know that it needs replaced? They rarely go bad. It is usually the TDC sensor if any. The rear one would likely only be reachable from the underside.

Yes, they are the same, on the front driver's side of the engine, underneath the distributor area. The second sensor is at the back of the engine, back between the engine and the firewall, hard to get to. the TDC sensor is simple to get at. I can get you a diagram if you wish.

I'm not familiar with you engine but I don't think TDC sensor is used for engine control. It is there for diagnostic only to sync the lab scope to the TDC in cyl #1.

Here are the photos of where the TDC sensor is at. The green circle is about where it is located down below the hoses and the fan. The green lines are the path of the connection cable to the diagnostic terminal. Are you sure you need to replace the TDC sensor? The TDC sensor is connected to the diagnostic connector and the position sensor on the back is connected to the EZL.

If you read all my posts from this past month, my 16 valve has a no start condition right now. I replaced cap. rotor, plugs a,d even bought a new Dizzy. Nothing, same problem.

Other posts similiar to my cars problem all poit to a possible CPS since it controls the ICU to make spark. Everyone who replaced their CPS cured their problem and most said the CPS can read good on the ohm scale but really wont function. Mine falls right in the middle of the acceptable resistance values.

Ok, seems you are on a logical trail. IF you have fuel and no spark, go for it. But, you need to replace the rear sensor as you mentioned in the first place. I think I misunderstood and began to lead you to the wrong sensor. You want the one in the rear, yes, I think you have to drip the drip pan from the bottom of the car to get at it easily and it has a wire harness that plugs directly into the EZL on the driver's fender apron. It is part number #11 on the diagram I posted.
