Poor cold starting situation W201
Cold starting is starting to be mopre difficult all of a sudden. Car was in perfect starting and running condition. 1986 W201 190E 2.3-16v
Is taking 2-4 seconds of craking to start when cold now. Weather has gone from 75 to 40's lately but I am suspecting something else causing it. Car has a lot of new parts on it and something is not acting right. Car is starting easier when cold if I give it a tap on the accelerator when starting. Never had to before. New parts...plugs, non resistor. Plug Wires, OEM. Fuel pump check valve. Fuel accumulator. Fuel filter. All four fuel injectors. Ignition coil new. TDC sensor. New Optima battery. New cold start valve. I am sort of at a loss of what to look for, I already used up all my tricks. I did swap out my OVP relay and it seems to maybe have helped a bit. I was thinking the OVP because several times on start up after it does start I get the antilock idiot light on for no reason. It stays on for a few seconds and the car will not accelerate, it dies out and stumbles. Then the antilock light goes out and the car riuns perfectly. Everything is fine again, no hesitation, not stumble and it will start up fine after that until it is cold again. Spare OVP seems to have kept the Antilock light from coming on so far. We will see tomorrow when it is cold again. The fuel mixture seems to be good if not a bit rich. I am looking at maybe a temp sensor not working correctly to indicate a cold start situation? Which sensor is mainly responsible for fuel inrichment on cold startup? It really has not been cold enough to focus on the cold start valve not working since a few times it was pleanty warm outside for the cold start to not be actuated and the situation still exists. i am looking at sensors as the possible issue. That or two bad OVP relays. Any adice on where to start. I have run out of ideas. I think the fuel pressure is holding as it should and hot starts are not an issue, they are good. Car only has 98,000 miles on it. it should be starting much more reliably that it is.
