Ok, this fill-up issue is getting old - 202 filler neck/gas tank
For the past 3 years, starting when it was warm outside, then later, up to now, anytime the tank was more than half-empty, I cannot fill my gas tank without manually holding the trigger at the lowest setting possible, so low that it causes the pump to make squealing noises. It has rendered auto-shutoff useless, to the point that I have overfilled the car twice, causing fuel to leak out the release valve (another story). I have posted this twice in the past 2 years, before it was as bad as it is now, and I've gotten "use the lowest setting" and try a different pump.
For the record, I have used 3 years' and 85k miles worth of gas stations and nozzle-holding methods. IT AIN'T WORKIN! Having personally put over 100k on this car, I know how much fuel it needs at what levels. For it to be so overfilled at these points that it spills, COMBINED with the worsening issue of being unable to fill it under 1/2 tank without using my method (otherwise it clicks off at 6 gallons, every time, without fail), leads me to believe there is so issue with the housing/filler neck/reserve tank. All I know is what I see from a diagram, which is something way bigger than a just filler neck where the nozzle inserts - looks like a large box, with drain valves at various points. I woudl think someone on here would have a pretty straight answer as to what the problem is, but I can't find them. It is to the point that if I can't find an answer, I'm taking it to the dealership and having them install new tubing from the neck to the tank. It is THAT frsutrating

Sounds like the vent is plugged.

Well, that's my hunch. But, which vent? How is it fixed? I envision this being a tear-down from neck to tank.

I don't know my car is much different then yours. Every fuel tank has to have a vent line somewhere, mines underneath near the diff. The FSM should point out its location.
After making sure the hose is not kinked, I'd stick a wire up it and see if something is stuck. It may have a check valve or something that is failing, the gas cars are a bit different.
