what is a 300CE 24?

is this different from another 300ce? or just a name designation for a certain year?

Answer:

The 300CE has two valves per cylinder.

The 300CE 24 has four valves per cylinder = 24 valves total = higher performance.

Have a great day.

Yes, so all 1990-1992 300CE's have this motor. I think the motor number is M104.990.

In 1993 they went to the 3.2 liter M104.992 engine, which was used in 1993-1995 300E / E320's, 1993-1999 S320's, and 1996-1997 W210 chassis E320's.

300CE - 24 is simply the European name for the 124 coupe with the 4 valves per cylinder 104 motor. In the U.S. it was just called the 300CE. As mentioned it started in the U.S. in 1990. In Europe it often had, or perhaps always had, a 5 speed transmission, in the U.S. it was a 4 speed.

That is what I wish I had in place of my (not bad though) 300CE . Just because of the extra 40 HP.

I have the American version and the plate on the back says 300CE24. I've never seen another with that plate.

if you get the chance and are looking for a 300CE, get the 24valve engine, it is more powerful and I feel it has better reliability, but maybe I am biased....I like it

Never happened even once. They were simply 300CEs in the U.S., on the title and on the trunk lid. Anyone who has a 300CE-24 on trunk lid has either a gray market car or a gray market emblem, probably the latter.
