89 420 wipers stopped
It seem that one of the wipers got frozen, and when I started the wipers one arm moved and one did not. Then they both stopped. When I freed the frozen arm, they seem to move very freely by hand, like they were not attatched to the motor. I can hear the motor running, but the arms do not move. Is there a mechanism like a shear pin that breaks the arms free from the motor so it won't burn out if the arms are not free ?
Thanks for any help. |

No.
I am in the process of fixing mine now and I found that the bushings on the lever that connected the transmission to the motor have worn out, the lever either jams the mechanism and they stop cold or it drops clear and you have what you describe, motor-running-no-wipe. Used transmissions would have to be looked at carefully as they are all as old as yours, unless the car lived in Nevada all its life. New transmissions are expensive. I have used 2 rod-ends and made a new connection lever, so far so good. If I am not still sore after dinner I am going to offer up the assembly to the car and see if it accepts it. Then it will have to be adjusted. If you want the directions for any of this, just ask.
