If you have a local Harbor Freight Tools you can pick up an inexpensive scanner. Many people on these forums get OBD II /CAN model. It normally sells for $59 in the store but if you bring in a copy of their online ad ($39) most stores will give you the lower price. The model is 94169.
Plugs in under dash next to hood release. Flip down a small cover first. Easy to use. If the post the codes you receive with it, many people here will be able to give you a pretty good idea of what the problem is. Even if you don't intend to DIY you will be more knowledgeable when dealing with the independent or dealer. |

You can go to Auto Zone and they'll read codes for you for free.
