What is the difference between the 97 and 98? I found this link but it does not provide the difference, both of them like identical to me:

The biggest difference is the addition of the BODY CAN network. The 1998 + later use computers thru out the car. Making diagnosis & repairs more costly, especially for a DIYer.

The electronic ignition switch (EIS) is a gateway for information.

And if you went back to a 96 without a 722.6 transmission it would be even more DIY friendly.

166k and counting on my "spiritedly driven" (abused) 722.6 (with 40k fluid change intervals though)

Most reliable car I have ever owned - including Hondas. Bought at 61k, drives, runs, and sounds the same as it did 4 years and 105k ago

I've seen that before, that 722.6s hold up better with 4 cylinders, but are still a bit less DIY friendly, and of course more expensive to rebuild when the time comes.
