My power steering pump and steering box are leaking fluid. I know that I can buy rebuild/seal kits for them. Has anyone done this before? How difficult is it? Any special tools/proceedures needed? Vehicle is '76 450SL.
Thanks Michael |

Just repacked the pump on my 1987 190 and it was very simple. No special tool were required. It is most likely the shaft seal that is leaking, my was destroyed and caked with grease and grime.

Hi Michael,
The P/S pumps are easy enough to reseal. The steering boxes are a bit harder and require about $200 worth of special tools to repair correctly. There are lots of places that sell rebuilts. Regards, Randy D. |
