W124 manual transmission!
Hello. I've finally sourced a transmission and all associated parts. The attached pic shows the parts that I've got in addition to the transmission itself.
Is there any other parts that I would need? I don't want to get half way and then realise I'm missing a part or two. Is there anything that is missing? My mechanic is doing the swap for me. He said I might need a pump/master cylinder for the clutch, and the propeller shaft. He's not familiar with these swaps in Mercs so I'm hoping he's wrong. Anyway, please help!! Cheers, Jeff |

The brake fluid resevour neets a port for the clutch master. And I'm assuming the slave is on the transmission.
And I don't see a shift knob.

I don't see the tranny either but I will assume that you have that too. The driveshaft is needed in a 123 manual conversion so it may be needed in the 124 also. YOu will just have to measure the length of the trannies to be sure.
The driveshaft can be modified as well. Sometimes you need a tranny crossmember too. Other times you can just drill new holes in the crossmember and make it work that way. Tom W

Cheers for the replies! Would someone care to elaborate a bit on the cylinder port thing? I assumed that the brake master cylinder would pump the clutch too...?
Also, isn't the thing in the top left corner of the pic the crossmember? I have no idea hehe. A not-so-related question though, aren't all the MB transmissions Getrag? Why is the seller making a big fuss about it being a Getrag? Oh I do have the transmission assembly (just not shown!). Regarding the shift knob, I was wondering if I could fit something from a W203 to it? Lastly (I promise!), is there a plastic thing that goes round the wood at the gaiter, to keep the gaiter in place? Cheers, Jeff |

yeah, that is a crossmember. The getrag tranny came only in the 190 16v. It is a close ratio box with a 1 to 1 top gear, not overdrive. It is a very very robut unit but will not give the fuel economy of a od tranny.

On my manual 124 the gaiter is held in place by simply stretching and snugging around a plastic lip or flange around the shift opening -- it looks to me like yours may be in place already...

Is this going into a 190 or a 300? The transmission crossmembers may be different between the chassis types. Ditto for pedal cluster. you will also need: Flex line from brake fluid resv. to clutch master cylinder, high pres. line from end of steel line to the slave cyl., drive shaft (maybe just the front part), pilot bearing that fits inside the crankshaft, neutral safety switch, shift boot, exhaust pipe support that comes off the rear of the manual trans (of course its different ). Most of this stuff is minor, some is major. also new bushings for both ends of the shift rods. Brake resv. has a nipple on it that you just cut off the end of to supply fluid to the clutch master cylinder. Have fun...After I did my 300E it was a whole different car. I used an overdrive 5th trans (stock 300E manual trans). Put it in 5th and its got legs!
Also, I'm looking for a 300E 5 spd parts/beater car. If you came across one in your search that you passed on I'd sure like to know about it. Needs to be 300E so I don't have the compatibility questions. Thanks!
