SRS light
I had an SRS light problem when I first bought the car. It would randomly blink on and off while driving. In reading about possible cause, I discovered it could be linked to electrical problems. After timing chain replacement, unibelt replacement, and general tune-up, the light quit blinking. I don't know what happened, but it hasn't come on again. I'll ask the tech that does the work on Pearl and see if he fixed something I'm not aware of.

Sharp eye there mushedroom..
My mistake.. a 1988 it is!.....the first model year for the coupe wasn't it?. The MBUSA website indicates that they sold about 27,000 of the 300ce's that first year and the msrp was around $52,400. From there, the unit volume started down and the price kept going up! Hmm! Mine was purchased in Manhattan ..and taken to Florida and used as a winter car..Always garaged and the lustre proves it! I think I'm the 3rd owner. I tried to attach a photo but the jpeg is too large a file to attach...I'm lost.. Now...to figure out how to fix my profile ... Any of you MB owners Harley riders too???... a wild combination.. |

whoa!!!
wait a minute... if i'm right... production figures for the 300CE/E320 coupes were actually approx. 15,000 total from 88 - 95.... that 27,000 number you got on the website is probably for the whole E-Klasse.... simply because they only made a few thousand of the coupes. per year

Here is a link to the page on the Mercedes Benz U.S.A. website that shows production figures and MSRP by year for the W124 coupes, as well as a ton of other good info:

Mushedroom: Yes, I am in the Hollywood Hills and have joined the MB Coupes list!
Dynalow: Here is what I’ve found in the Tech Forums: 1) Check seat belt/buckles for damage, spilled liquids, etc. 2) Most likely a worn horn contact ring. I pulled my steering wheel and all seems OK but I need to check again as I can now occasionally make the SRS light blink on and off with a slight movement of the steering wheel. Most of the time though the light just stays on regardless of the position of the steering wheel. The service records from the dealer show the ring being replaced at 90m. 3) Weak electrical system. This is my next check. Just got around to buying a volt meter from Radio Shack to check the electrical system. At rest the battery should be ~12 volts. With car running it should be about ~13 volts. A low reading of 10 volts could cause the SRS light problem. Need to then check my battery/ voltage regulator/ alternator. My radio has a bit of static and this may indicate a voltage problem as well. 4) I remember a thread about SRS light and long trips. It may have been your thread but I have not been able to pull it up. Suggestion was that the transmission/drive train tunnel gets hot on long trips and may affect some of the SRS wiring that runs along the tunnel. 5) There was one post recommending to have the dealer check it ASAP as a blown SRS module is a big ticket item. I’ll probably take it in if I can’t solve it after checking the electrical system and pulling the steering wheel again. glenmore 1991 300CE 115m |

glenmore...
Interesting remark about long trips and heat.. Funny, I had the most problem with the blinking SRS on a mid-day 3 hr trip down the Jersery coast fm NYC on a day in July when it must have been 95 deg. a brutal day. The other couple of times it came on the air temp was very hot here. ...heck, the whole summer was hot and dry here... Coincidentally, I'm running up to North Jersey Sunday....will keep this in mind... Last I checked, a few months ago... the alternator was putting out fine. battery fairly new.. dunno about the volt. regulator though. Not being particularly mechanical...the last thing I would do to that car would be pull the steering wheel myself. Scary thought. So if that's where the fix is..it's a dealer job. Thanks for the comeback.. On another subject ...for you West Coast guys..... Anaheim or the Giants ??..

Looking for spare parts for the passenger door seatbelt assembly:
.... motor mechanism... entender arm..triangular trim piece..and the retractor spring mechanism.. none of these on line parts sellers seem to carry these specific items.. My dealer wants 450.00 for the motor mechanism..ouch.. the rod is 54.00... seat belt 256.80...plus couple of hundred in labor to remove rear seat and panel and install the parts... Is there any way to test the motor without removing the panel and physicallay inspecting it ?? |

dynalow...
Don't know much about the motor, etc, but I have some info on the triangular trim pieces: Part number: 124 692 11 22 Left $9.50 124 692 12 22 Right $9.50 These part numbers are for interior code 265 Mushroom, '92 300CE. I suspect they are a color coded part, so other colors may be different. I've also recently replaced many of the interior plastic trim pieces around the bottom of the seats, console and seat belts, etc (because some of them where cracked or missing), and I have the part numbers for them, if anyone is interested. They where all remarkably inexpensive (~$10).

New kid on the block...
Just bought my second Mercedes, a 1994 E320 Coupe. This is one of my dream cars, and I'm really lucky to be able to buy it. It has 56k miles and all the options. Is ASR good for anything if I'm not in a snowy climate?

The ABS Light is on, but the car runs fine. This thing is a beauty, Red Exterior Tan interior, 98k. How much should I be paying. Thanks!!! |
