Can you post a picture of the console? I know how to remove an '81 380SL and replace with FROSTED bulbs as opposed to the brighter CLEAR bulbs. If your covers are generic M/B, then a simple removal of ash tray and a pull on the cover should get you where you want to be.

Sorry, I don't know about your E340. I have yet to tear into our '01 S430.
