210 rear window repair?
Here are some pics of my '98 E300 rear passenger window parts, damned plastic just went potto.
While I truly enjoy the comfort, performance and economy of this rig,I'm ever the pessimist where plastic and rubber are concerned,as they have been the cause of the majority of my woes. Is this "piece"available?or do I have to fashion my own out of nylon and drill&tap the steel backplate?I fully understand how the system works,by the way. I am generally NOT given to histrionics but I'm like to blow a gasket if the whole window assembly must be ordered. Any advice???? ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Take a deep breath and don't shoot the messenger. It comes as a unit.
Cheaper ones are avail on eBay; my (chinese?) repalcement lasted a year and maybe only 25 uses.......my next one will be OEM.

Fashioning my own is no big deal with my machine shop,a larger backplate would be warranted though. |

Correct; and the pop rivets ARE extra. Most of us have either tapped the hole or used small SS screws/nuts as the rivets need a very heavy duty gun to pop.

I think I had a similar part replaced by the dealer for free on a 124. When it was done, the car was well out of warranty. The dealer never heard of it but somebody in the Mercedes club gave me a special repair number and when they called it in, Mercedes covered it. Perhaps you should check with one of the technical experts at the Mercedes Club of America and see if there is anything like this for your car. May not work but it will not hurt to try.

Well, I had drug-induced thoughts of using some leftover Nylon stock, setting up the Bridgeport Vertical Mill,Mig a larger backplate and countersink the screwholes in the new block, probably have to remove the stupid rail anyway to Vernier out the clearance needed.Something I would not hesitate to do to fabricate parts for my antique cars...............
I'll probably be a damn sheep and order one,but I'll hunt FeePay first! Too much else to do ![]() |
