Transmission advice please

I have a 93, 190E, 2.3. Right after i came to a stop the transmission made a slight clunk noise, then i noticed it would no longer go forward. Reverse is fine but no forward in any gear. When shifting from N to D, I can feel the engine nudge slightly, but nothing happens when I hit the gas. Fluid looks normal. I have a 140K miles on the car, perhaps I need a rebuilt. Any ideas please, thank you.

My 91 300CE just did the same thing...i ended up having the transmission rebuilt...approx. $2000, which isn't too bad for MB...its possible to get it cheaper I suppose, but they had to replace the entire case due to a crack and also the rear "pump"...good luck...

thanks guys, the car is in the shop, they will let me tomorrow what they find tomorrow. I am thinking about buying a rebuilt transmission instead of having the shop fix the broken one. I am not sure though if a rebuilt transmission would have a better life expectancy than a used low miles one? In another MB that I own, I have 318K miles on the original transmission.

It's always a tough decision when it comes to transmissions...I've owned many cars in my life and automatic transmissions have always been a crap shoot in my opinion...I had a 1989 Chevy Camaro that went 342,000 miles on the original engine and transmission...(and chevys dont usually go near that)...in contrast, I read on this forum all the time and people talk about their transmissions going out at 150,000 or less...AMAZING?
