As an engine gets older and racks up the miles , it tends to have a less compression and burns little oil, stuff like that..
So, a little bump up on the plugs heat range is sometimes a help keeping the plugs clean...but if you have nice clean plugs after a few thousand miles , you can stay with the originals..and most do.
