Question W201.....a couple of questions

Folks,

I am now the proud owner of a '84 190D......with a 5 speed.....got it real cheap too.....

A few weeks ago I was asking about a 190E......also cheap, very cheap.....so basically I have enough parts to make a very nice 190D......

the bad news is.....the PO's of both cars have nearly destroyed the console area in their attempts to install a new stereo.......at least that's my guess!!

I also had never even driven a W201 before yesterday......have a tech manual on the way.....the 190D is almost sporty with the 5 speed......

Only one of the windows in the D works.....checked fuses.....checked and swapped the switch foe the drivers window.....definitely have 12V to the switch and the switch has continuity when operated.......the 5 speed console wood is trash, intend to route out the shifter area of the wood from the automatic panel to accomodate the manual shifter.....anyhoo....where does the wiring run from the switch to the door???? The wires leave the switch and appear to run aft, and I suppose under the floor, also apart....rust converter already sprayed!! Also is there an easy way to remove the door panel?? I wish I had a schematic......for this car.....

I am assuming that the sunroof is pretty much like a W123.....I can hear the motor run....so the teleflex cable....is probably bad....but I have the other car......

I would like to know what kind of fuel mileage folks are getting with their 601 Diesels.......from the little MB Tech Info Book...I have calculated that I should get somewhere around 40-42 MPG.......My 300D gets 27.0 MPG regularly.....so I will be happy with anything better than 37 MPG....

Also why would someone install an electric fuel pump in line.....I used it when I first started the engine.....it had been sitting for a tad over 4 years......but the car runs great with the electric fuel pump disconnected.....so far I don't see any other fuel system modifications.....

That's all for now...I think.....heading back out to the door panel on the 190E.....both cars are very different colors.....so no swapping interior stuff.......

Ahh....another bad item.....someone had removed the data plate by the radiator....sometime in the past.....no paint code ##......what is the name of the 1984 W201 paint that is sort of human flesh colored?? I have seen this color all over the Mid East.....kinda would be a good base color for desert camo........there is a "Desert Taupe".....and my link to the old German paint website is no good.....is that still up somewhere??? Car has a Wine...Burgundy....sort of interior.....

Thanx again,
SB
