Question Carb/Choke Cleaner?

86 300e w/ 190,000 - runs very good - is it ok to use a carb/choke cleaner on this car? (103) should it be running? any recommended brands?

Am not sure but don't think the '86 had a carb. In any event, try Red Line fuel treatment. Available from this site. You will like the results. BTW, at some point a large, and even perhaps HUGE cloud will emit from the car's tail pipe. Don't be alarmed, it's just years worth of carbon build up being ejaculated out the tailpipe.

Lebenz,

What type of results will occur? If I put some RL fuel treatment in my '85 190E w/51K, do you think it will have a premature ejaculation? Sorry gang, I just couldn't resist the opportunity.

I don’t know if RL would make it ejaculate sooner or later based on less miles traveled, necessarily. Of course if the engine hasn’t built up much carbon, you can’t expect much of an ejaculation.

But, give it a try! If it has had only 51K of freeway miles, I’d hazard a guess that it might not ejaculate much if at all. OTOH, if you use it a lot in the city it might just ejaculate big time -- I put RL in one car at 70K miles and it left a cloud or ejecta that stretched for what seemed like a mile. My 400’s recent experience was a miniscule 100 yards. But what a hundred yards!

It would be cool to do an experiment and find a good high mileage E class, used around town to run some RL through, and see if we can get a video of it ejaculate about 100K miles of carbon and soot.

Give it a try! And report back! We can tabulate the results~

Carb./choke cleaner is not meant to be added to the fuel tank. You are supposed to spray it down into a carb. to clean up the varnish in the choke and barrels. Since your car is fuel injected, then you're not going to be able to use the cleaner for what it was originally made for. OTOH, carb./choke cleaner is an excellent cleaner for other things, just don't breath in the fumes. It is an excellent degreaser, and it evaporates real quick.

A word of caution. It is also an excellent paint stripper.

Used carb and choke cleaner to degrease my intake manifold, while the manifold was on a workbench. The metal workbench is now ready for a coat of primer.

I would almost swear that the carb and choke cleaner and bix are one and the same... Hmm, what else needs stripping?

Thanks for replies. The intent was to clean system, I will try the redline product. This is an outstanding site and I am grateful to those who generously share their experience.
