I decided to completely clean the cooling system, so it was drained, flushed with water (about 10 gallons) and refilled with a citrus cleaner and water, nothing else.

After driving the car for about 3 hours, I opened the fill cap and there's nothing but 'semi-clear' water; it slightly tinted to the brown side but there's no 'bubbles' that I referred to in the first part of the post.

These 'bubbles' are from the Water Wetter as it gives out an 'oil' like substance; probably glycerine. check out this link:

I'm writing this because I forgot how good water is (!) as a coolant. I been using around 40/60 (af/water) but after 3 more hours of driving, I will drain, flush and refill with 1gal MB af and 10qts of distilled water. About 25/75% ratio. I can do this because of the So Cal climate.

After flushing a running the car with just MB af and distilled water, I've been not exactly pleased with the engine temperature performance.

Not that it has been bad but it would tend to rise to 95 - 100C. Also should say that I've removed the full time VFC mod described in MENU#20 and am currently experimenting with a modified VFC but one that cuts in at 95-100C.

So with those changes in mind, the engine temperature doesn't quite stay as low as it did before. That when I found a new additive.

In my search for newer/better products, I found a product made by Royal Purple called Purple Ice. It's similar to Water Wetter but it does NOT leave a oil film residue as does WW. So I currently using this product sucessfully and the engine temp has a hard time breaking 90C.

Just go to a radiator shop and they will pressurize the system and tell you where it's leaking. They probably won't even charge you anything.

what you mean by "leaking"? There is no leak in the radiator or anywhere else. What I thought was 'oil' in the overflow tank was not real but a oil-like-film that Water Wetter produces.

Is that what you where referring to?? Menu#17 has the details of what happened.
