upshift delay valve

My dealer says that my '93 s320 (101,000mi) needs this replaced due to Info from check engine light. Says that it is in the tranny, but I notice a squeek form the engine compartment. Sometimes when I take off from stop and the squeek is at the time of shifting from 1st into 2nd. But after the engine is warm I do not hear the squeek any more. His cost is $995.00 any discussion/information wouild be greatly appretiated. Other wise car performs great. I am the second owner since 29,000mi. Michael

should be 94 s320

I don't think the tranny on that car even has electronics on it aside from a kickdown....MB didn't switch to a electronic trans until '96....his diagnosis sounds suspicious....so does the price....you can almost get a whole rebuilt transmission for that!

You can't get close to a real rebuilt trans for that money, but there is no part of the upshift delay system that should cost anywhere near that amount.

First rule is get the model right - no such thing as a 93 S320. Also don't take a car that old to a dealer, need to find an independent shop.

If the CE code is for shift delay, it has nothing to do with the trans , it has to do with the cable and vac element that is controlled by the ECU. They hold the trans in shift delay for rapid warm-up of the Cat [ Emmissions device]
What code are you getting for CE ???

We have a local shop that will rebuild a MB trans for about $890, and they do an excellent job.

Stuff in Florida costs more than in Michigan.
