Error codes 11 & 13 air intake fault codes on 190E

2.6L. Okay I got the codes off they read as follows.

11- Air injection system, open or short circuit

13- Intake air temperature reading is illogical

Any idears? Is there an intake temp sensor that has gone postal or????

Sorry, just a little frustrated trying to track down a component I am not familiar with. I suck at the electronics and while looking at the schematics found the temp sensor and that it was only $30, I guess that after sleeping on it you are right, I should check it before if I replace it. But I cannot locate and air injection system. Is it possible that was a California only emmission device?

Well, it is easier to check it than to replace it , have that not work, and then have to check it anyway...
,,but that is just an opinion. Mant times you can just replace the part a code brings up and get away with it...like about 2-3 % of the time.

Not a good idea.

Your AIR system is the smog pump and it has a magnetic clutch that has a code that indicates it is open circuit or shorted circuit...so , replace the pump OR check the connector at the pump for power and check the clutch coil for an open . ...as I recommended in my first diagnotic procedure post.

Thanks for your patience. I was able to locate the smog pump earlier this morning and when inspecting it realized the leads to the clutch were in poor condition and I rewired it and it defeated the code. I have not driven it as of yet so I am not sure if that after a duty cycle it won't reappear however it seems to have addressed the 11 code.

I will report back on the 13 intake temp sens.

Thanks again.

Very good...that would be a most likely possible.
If the AIT sensor is not open or have a bad connection, then a likely possible on that code is the sensor is dirty from airflow debries and engine blow- by.
The simple remedy for that condition is to spray the element with a cleaner [ like MAF cleaner ] and plug it back in.

I drove the car a short distance this afternoon, not sure if it was enough for a cycle but the check engine light did not come back on. I also should mention that when I was looking at the temp sensor, it was dusty and I took the opportunity to clean it.

I might be good to go at this point but I will drive it a few times and see if throws any more codes.

Thanks again for the tips.
