help with timing chain cover

stupid me . . as I was removing the guide rail pin with a bolt a few washers, some washers fell into the timing chain. I tried using a magnet pen, but it only sticks to the chain. my question is: how do i remove the lower timing chain cover?

Go to AutoZoo or some such place and buy a little grabber tool they sell. looks like an oversized speedometer cable with a syringe grip at one end and four little metal pieces that come out at the other to grab whatever you have dropped. I have used the tool to retrieve many dropped pieces. If you can see them, you can probably get them.

Do whatever you can to avoid removing the lower timing chain cover. Try wrapping the side of the magnet so only the end will attract the dropped washers, or the mechanical grabber is a possibility. Hopefully you know how many washers you dropped and can retrieve them all the simplest way.

What about using a thin wire bent with a hook on the end to grab the washer hole? Removing the lower timing chain cover will complicate the job and may introduce more leaks.

If you want to save yourself from a lot (A LOT!!!!!) of headache find some way to get it out because it is a load of trouble, I had to do this because I had some bed oil leaks and even then I was debating not doing it.

Best bet it to hit the Northern store, Harbor Freight, or even a dollar store... I found the one that looks like a speedo cable with the spring like fingers at the end at a dollar store but I have also seen them at the Northern stores as well.

good luck
