Does an aftermarket W124 regulator have a clutch?
The new regulator I put in has a lot of power. The window goes up really fast and when it gets to the top it wedges in there so tightly it tweaks the sheet metal on the inside of the door.
Is there a clutch or an adjustment? I'm guessing no, that's why it cost $130.00 and not $300+. I have no idea what to even look for. TIA

My understanding is that the travel needs to be reset, but I have no idea how to actually do it.

No clutch, no adjustment. The motor stalls to stop it.

I was wondering how that works too.....so the convenience control module senses the load from the motor stall and then switches it off? Does it do that for the moonroof too? I wondered how that works especially with the key-close feature.

I don't believe there is a current sense / shutoff, just the motor stalls and it doesn't go any further. Steel gears and not a lot of power.
The sunroof has a limit switch but not sure how it closes no matter if it is tipped or slid, ... Not sure on the key-close feature, probably the same and considering the lower voltage with all five operating concurrently, probably less force to stop them. The key-open same.

That seems suspicious.....if three of the 4 windows are up and one is all the way down, then it stalls/loads all other motors the whole time while closing the one window? I doubt that.....3 stalled motors would put a huge current draw on the battery, not to mention it would burn out the motors pretty quick.
Key-open eh? So holding the key in the open position will open all the windows/moonroof?

Re key open
"Key-open eh? So holding the key in the open position will open all the windows/moonroof? "
Yes, on your 90 300E but to do this you must first lock and hold using the key and then turn to unlock and hold within 1 or 2 seconds. Try it out but only the windows open on our cars, not the roof. Acky |

Interesting. No further comments on the motor-stalling the whole time during the auto-up feature? I just don't think they'd design it that way.
It would only open 3 windows on my car, the passenger rear is a non-responsive patient. ![]()
