Oil change pump thingy?

I am getting old and don't relish climbing under cars anymore. I saw a gizmo that makes oil changing easier. A tube goes into the dipstick tube and then the oil is sucked out. Any good? Feedback? Where would I get this thingy?

Works well (except for the 6.9 with dry sump). I needed to be shown...used it then removed the drain plug, got only a few more drops, haven't looked back. You can get one at a marine supply house (Boat US, West Marine, etc). I use one called "topsider" for the last 15 years.

I have been using this type of units for about 15 years. I finally modified my Mityvac (see link below) and I would not be happier. The speed of removing the oil is much faster and I also got a little more oil out than putting a small tube into the dipstick tube.

This can be bought from Sears, Amazon, and various other places. Do get the one that has over 8 liters of capacity.

Mercedes, BMW, and VW are all DESIGNED to have oil removed via vacuuming via dipstick tube. Have been for decades.

I like the shop air version by MityVac.

Note that the hose needs to be rigid--there are versions out there with soft hoses and they are a joke because the warm oil combined with the vacuum will just suck the hose flat and no oil is extracted.

Eliot, the Griot's Garage liquid/oil extractor works well. I have used the manual type for oil changes for the past 10 years.

I have one, it's made by MityVac from memory. Works great.

Six others from BMW, GM, and Ford.
