Electrical problem with 2000 E320

Intermittent fault (every few days to every few weeks - no pattern) while driving. Display will beep and show error message, "Check Lamps." Then will start to flash, then LCD will pixelize. Display will beep again and show (in red) "Check Brake Fluid - Visit Workshop." LCD display then goes completely white or red and flashes, as does the red "Brake" light at bottom left of display. Goes on until I stop the car and turn off the ignition, then things back to normal (usually - occasionally not). The car operates normally, and there are no problems with lamps or brake fluid. Would like to fix this, but don't want to open an expensive can of worms with the MB dealer!! Any ideas? SC

Some short circuit in the instrument cluster motherboard or wiring. Take it out and clean it and see if it solves the problem. ALso check other grounding points on the vehicle. How old is the battery? This could also happen when the battery is due. Look under the rear seat, see if water around the battery too.
