Alternator Headache!!!??

I'm replacing the alternator on my friends 2002 E320. Went to AutoZone and ordered a reman unit. Took it to my friends, pulled the old one and the rear connections are set up slightly different, the Autozone unit will not allow the strange shaped connector from the car to fit snug against the screw/bolt connection. Naturally I curse Autozone's name assuming they gave me the wrong part.
The alternator on the left is the Re-manufactured, Right is Original from car.

The one on the left looks exactly like the one FastLane brings up for the car. I even typed in the part number on the side of original alternator and it brought up a listing for the one on the left....

After doing quite a bit of searching, I found that an alternator for a C-class looks just like the one off my friends E320...

I'm sure I could modify the connector from the car to get it to fit the new alternator. Should I do that or try ordering the Alternator from the C-class?

The part number off the origional Alternator is: 011 154 62 02

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm stumped here....

To directly answer your question:
Quick and Dirty-
Measure the diameter of the Post on the "ReMan" and pick up the appropriate sized "Ring Terminal" and crimp it onto the bare end of the existing wire.
(After you've cut the offending terminal Off)

011 154 62 02

Is a Valeo (Manufacturer) alternator unit.
Some Mercedes models come with either/or Bosch or Valeo.

(Who in his right mind in the PRC knows which style the Zoo's re-painters were
trying to imitate ?)

First Question for you: By what diagnostic parameters was the Valeo deemed
"Tango Uniform"?

It might only need a new "Voltage Regulator" (Which ,on the Bosch Units, has
new Brushes too.)

Under normal conditions (NOT: Nuclear Explosions,Fires,Massive EMP exposure)
the wear parts on Alternators [and starters] are Brushes and Bearings.

Unsolicited Opinion: Your friend's Mercedes will not be happy ,in the long run,
with the Quality of the zoo's "Repaint" jobs.

'Better by far to pick up a VR and try it on the Valeo.

I think I'll probably just go with a the new ring terminal. The new alternator has 2 different threaded posts. Whats the difference between these two?

The one on the right in the photo says B1+. It has the longer of the two screw posts. The other says B2+ and has a significantly shorter post.

I only ask because it seems that B2+ would be easier to hook up than the other since the recessed area surrounding it is pointing back twords the motor block.

NO!

You Must Hook Up the Chassis Wires EXACTLY as Mercedes intended.
(No Substitutions!)

I'd take them both back to the Zoo and make it their problem!
The Alternator they sold you is NOT the correct one for your Chassis!
[On the "Fresher" Alternator (On the Left in your Picture) the Left hand
post for a ring terminal connection HAS NO CABLE ON YOUR CHASSIS
TO CONNECT TO it!

[I suspect the smell of Fried Wires will prevail shortly]
