HELP: W124 ignition lock replacement..>!!!

Ok,

I'm trying to put my new lock in .. I think I've screwed up. I got the old one out- easy. Now playing around to make sure I got the new one in the same way...
I put the outer black metal housing on the column.. just to see where and how it locks in.

NOW I CANNOT SEEM TO REMOVE IT.

I assume that you made a tool to remove the lock cylinder. Basically a U-shaped piece of coat hanger wire with tapered ends.
You should be able to use this tool to push in the two lock tabs that hold the black cylinder. Look in with a flashlight and you should see where to insert the tool.

YES,

The old lock is out. Then in a minute of stupidity.. I played with the metal cap to see in dim lighting it's final orientation. AND it snapped on.

So now I have a new and old locks on the seat.. metal protective cap firmly in place.

solved...

Just re-insert the release tool .. finding the right spot.

No biggie, just insert the U shaped tool or the two pins that you used to get it off the first time and it will come right off.
When you put the new lock cylinder in, turn it to what ever position the old one was in and slide it into place without the collar. If you're not sure what position it needs to be in, Turn the switch in the hole that the lock cylinder goes in, all the way to the off position (counter clockwise) then put the lock cylinder in without the key in it.
Got to go, they already kicked off!

I did exactly the same thing and freaked out too until I figured out it used the same mechanism to release...It just was a tad tricky because you don't have the cylinder to guide the device in with.
