1996 W210 Power Seat issue
The recline function on my drivers side seat only works 90% -this is strange since this tells me the motor (or one of the motors is fine) and the switch is fine. The recline will bring the seat all the way back to the rear seat and when you try to return it to the upright position is stops about 10 degrees short????
The memory does not return if back to where it should go either. I've done my searches and tried the following: 1. Changed the fuses under the back seat -nothing different 2. Resync by sliding forward - no help although how long do you have to hold the switch forward (5 seconds??) once it reaches the front. The rest of the seat works except the headrest -hasn't worked for the past 5 years since I purchased it. How many motors control the recline function? If there are two then one must be broken. Is there a way to manually move it back to the desired angle? thanks in advance If my sig is out of date or missing 1996 E300 with 279K miles thanks

It could be a synchronization issue, or it could be that something is binding. When the motor sees additional force, it thinks that it is at the end.
And now that you mention it, I have never seen a procedure on synchronizing the seat recline. If it's forward as far as it goes, does releasing and then again holding the switch again do anything? |

Not sure
By releasing and holding again - you're referring to the actual seat (where your butt goes) adjustment knob and not the recline switch portion (where you r back goes).
I can try - I wondered if there was a sensor in the seat to avoid losing a finger -our OSHA regulations require ZAMG which is zero access machine guarding to block you from sticking part of your body in the way otherwise it needs to have a sensor to stop if it senses it is being stopped. Thanks i can give it a try if I understand your suggestion - push the seat all the way forward then - hold for 5-10 sec then let go and push forward again and hold even though it's all the way forward? Did I get it right? thanks

Bump and no dice
I tried the suggestion and no dice - seems as though it thinks it is finished moving forward - I assume there is a sensor or a "stop".
My seat is confused - if it is a re-sync would disconnecting the battery erase the "memory"? How hard/expensive is it to replace the seat recline motor? Anyone? thanks
