Three (3) engines eh?
All gone bad! Now that is a trail of bad luck that I can only trace back to two possible reasons...one is chance/odds this happened ...the other is....well, you know.....

I could guess.
Could swapping the engines have an effect on the Crank position sensor ? Does it turn over ? Does it crank and not fire ? More info please. |

You have spark? Or no spark?
Are you sure it is getting gas? You could try some starting spray and see if that makes it run for second. If you get a backfire then timing.

CPS is in the back of the engine on top. Should have seen it while motor was pulled. I might try the coil packs also.

Yes if you look down between the cam cover and the firewall you should see the CPS.
Although, if you are getting spark, would this not suggest the CPS is good ? Does the CPS dictate when the plugs fire ? |

more info on the transplant.
The only difference from the other transplants is that the flex plate that is on the engine is NOT the original but off a 96 e320. Would this make a difference?? The other engines were put in they way they came from the donor yard; this one however was replaced with teh previous engine's flex plate. fuel is reaching the cylinders and so is spark but not igniting!!!!!!!!!! where are the gremlins!!UUUUURRRRGGGGGG |

Cant be sure. But I am pretty sure that 96 to 97 was a transition year ? I remember a parts supplier saying that their were two different CPS types for that year. IE, a different flex plate ??? Does my logic work here ?

I'd ask the shop if they can figure out if the injection timing and ignition timing are correct.
Might be on to something in regards to the flywheel or flex plate being incorrect for that engine. If the segments on the flywheel are not correct for the injection (ME-SFI) computer, the injection might be all wrong. One commenter suggested trying a bit of starting fluid to see if the engine will try to run. Which is a good thing to at least try, it tells you the engine is capable of running if the fuel is available. If it doesn't even try to run on that, or you get backfiring, it tells you that the spark is out of time. Which to me would more relate to the cam timing, but it's hard to tell. Gilly
