89 300ce EHA issues

replaced faulty eha, hard cold starts, stalled allot, adjusted air fuel ratio, now car does not stall, but it has a loss of power, and it still has ruff cold starts, pops in plenum till fully warmed up,if i disconnect the eha, engine runs so much better and has much more power,do you think i purchased a faulty eha,it was used?why does it run better with no hesitations ,when i unplug the eha?,thanks

I'm not sure how the CIS computer adjusts for a disconnected EHA valve, but my assumption is that when you disconnect it the car goes into open loop. How did you adjust the fuel mixture? If the EHA is used then it is very possible that it is defective. What made you replace the original EHA?

well when i first purchased the car,it had very similiar issues,i found the eha to be disconnected,so someone aslo did it for some reason,i purchased a used one that i was told was fine, installed it,then plugged it in,it ran horrible, loss of power would rev but not shift, unless i lifted throttle up,gained more power as i lifted throttle,i had a proffesional adjust the air fuel, mix.also there was a very strong smell of gas, when i plugged the old eha in,this smell dissapeared when i replaced it,so its like im back where i was with the original eha,im leaving it disconnected for now, till i can have my mechanic diag it.it has hard cold start now,but i can live with that, considering its running much more stronger disconnected.

Have you check the sensors that eha is using for fuel mixture? the lambda sensor, engine temp sensor, air-temp sensor. EHA disconnected put the car in limp home mode the engine will run leaner than normal could make it hard to start cold since the acutator current is not fine tuning the mixture.

your right,it is occasionally hard to start, but only after its been started and let to sit.ive been noticing its starting ok,it just needs to warm up a bit then its fine,i have not checked the other sensors,i was about to replace the temp sensor.there is 2 or 3 of them,im not sure wich temp sensor controls the mix.what is a lambda sensor?,im not familiar with that one.i still need to replace the o2 sensor also.

Lambda sensor is same as O2 sensor. Have tou tried to read fault code, You could have a test lead next to the fuel distributor connect a test lamp between this cable and battery positiv, California model might have a different set up or some KE3 jetronic.
